Bank Of America Check Deposit Time
Holds are governed by Regulation CC which allows banks to hold funds from your deposit under specific circumstances. The purpose of Reg. CC is to allow banks time to collect the money from the maker’s bank before giving depositors acces. So I got a loan/mortgage through my city for home repairs, received my check (Lets call is $20,000 for the value). I went to the bank, gave the deposit to the teller and the teller did everything right. $200 available the next day, and gave me notice $4800 would be available in 2 days, and the remainder $15000 in 5 business days.

If you deposit more than $5,000 in checks, the first $5,000 must be made available according to the bank's standard holding policy, but a longer hold can apply to the remaining amount. For example, when the checks are government checks, cashier's checks, or another low-risk item, the bank should make the first $5,000 available on the next.
